The Consorci de l'Estany

The Consorci per l’Espai d’Interès Natural de l’Estany de Banyoles i de Porqueres is an autonomous, public, associative, voluntary and administrative and management entity.

Immediately after the award of the LIFE Nature Project subsidy (LIFE03 NAT/E/000067), and thanks to the good relationship and the close collaboration between the town councils of Porqueres and Banyoles, as well as the resolute will of other supramunicipal administrations such as the County Council of Girona, to promote the Natural Space of the Banyoles lake, this Consortium was eventually set up on 30 April 2004.

By agreement of the Plenary Council dated on 05 July 2006 the incorporation of the Generalitat of Catalonia, through the Department of Environment and Housing, in the Consortium was approved, so the Bylaws of Consortium of the lake has to be amended, being approved definitively dated on 17 May 2007.

The mission of the Consortium is the environmental, social and economic preservation and promotion of the natural heritage of the Natural Interest Space: Estany de Banyoles and Clot d’Espolla Subunits of the municipalities of Banyoles and Porqueres.

The Consortium is formed by the County Council of Girona and the town councils of Porqueres and Banyoles.The area of action of the Consortium covers the area bounded by the Plan for Areas of Natural Interest: Subunits Lake Banyoles and Clot Espolla corresponding to Banyoles and Porqueres municipalities.

The headquarters of the Consortium of the Lake is located in the building of the Center for Interpretation Lake basin - Darder Museum, in Studies Square, no. 2 of the town of Banyoles.
